Solutions for the Muslim world in turmoil

وَقَاتِلُواْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللّهِ الَّذِينَ يُقَاتِلُونَكُمْ وَلاَ تَعْتَدُواْ إِنَّ اللّهَ لاَ يُحِبِّ الْمُعْتَدِينَ

AND FIGHT in God's cause against those who wage war against you, but do not commit aggression-for, verily, God does not love aggressors.

(Holy Qur'an, Chapter 2, Verse 190)

Thus the six month old cease-fire between Hamas, who control Gaza, and Israel ended after militants fired over 80 rockets into Israel. As per Hamas, this was in retaliation to the airstrikes that Israel conducted killing a known militant along with a good number of civilians. Now Israel has retaliated aerially bombing a number of police stations and headquarters of local security forces which are controlled by Hamas killing over 200, most of them innocent civilians. This has been going on for some time….Hamas militants fire rockets into Israel killing one or two civilians that leads to retaliation from Israel, killing scores (numbering into tens and sometimes into hundreds) of civilians along with the intended targets. This radicalizes a good number of Palestinians individuals who then wrap themselves with explosives and set it off in civilian areas killing and maiming numerous civilian Israelis. This results in the Israeli government to construct an even higher ‘security wall’, demolishing a huge number of Palestinian civilians homes, blocking their access to their places of work, hospitals etc radicalizing even greater numbers….resulting in incidents like a bulldozer driver driving thru civilians injuring scores and killing a few. This leads to cordoning off all Palestinian areas creating the biggest ‘Ghetto’ of the world since world war –II.
Seeing the injustice of ‘collective punishment’ of Palestinian people radicalizes the whole Arab and Muslim world, leading to a number of them calling for a Jihad-fii-sabillilah (struggle in the path of God or in other words “struggle to establish justice”), against Israel and its allies…the most apparent being the US. By extension it also includes all of the allies of US including the western countries and most of the governments of the Arab / Muslim world! Couple this with the fact that all these so called ‘Muslim’ government are intensely corrupt and unpopular, and hold on to power by brutal subjugation of their citizens, you have got condition ripe for the call and popular support for a ‘Global Jihad’. Moreover, even in countries where Muslims live in the minority, they live in extremely poverty ridden conditions, struggling to get decent jobs. Un-education is rampant, preventing any chances of them ever improving their condition. Couple this with existence of violence and overt or implied discrimination of Muslims by the majority population, like in most Muslim dominated areas of India / China / Russia / Sri Lanka / France / Greece…..the concept of ‘Global Jihad’ gains support even in these countries.
So is there no solution from their self feeding cycle of radicalization and hate? In the coming weeks, I would like to explore some of the possible solutions from the eyes of an untrained observer.
